Something to See

Well, he was a daring young man on the flying trapeze
A killer of ladies—a wrecker of homes, if you please
He flew through the air with the greatest aplomb
The ladies he dazzled from here to Saigon
But when he came down off his perch he was filthy and sour

The gin blossoms covered his nose like a map of Peru
His hair was a color, the name of which nobody new
Not auburn or chestnut, not black, grey, or brown
A fistful of brilliantine holding it down
And some people whispered he’d never set foot in a shower

But when he took flight, he was something to see
He could not be denied, saints and sinners agree

Don’t look for a lesson to learn, it’s not simple as that
A Jekyll and Hyde, he’s a two-face—a tiger, a rat
Yes, from a safe distance, he looked like a star
Up close he just smoldered like a cheap cigar
A firecracker wrapped in wet newspaper loses its power

But when he took flight, he was something to see
He could not be denied, saints and sinners agree
Oh, when he took flight, he was something to see
He could not be denied, saints and sinners agree
The daring young man, he was something to see
The man on the flying trapeze, he was something to see
